Obviously your first preference for Fire Magic would be Expert Berserk, but later on it's still not a bad spell to cast. But really, expert Bless works even better on low-tier units than Bloodlust. Obviously Expert Bless is an excellent spell and is one of the strengths of Water. Probably depends how their last two tiers creatures are. Some have strong middle creatures and the top is pretty meh to balance it out. But then this is just one graph, compared to how each person plays. I favour all ranged over anything. At least against AI can have some insanely epic battles.
